Nurse Crawford’s Peril — Evelyn Martin

Nurse Dee Crawford is warned not to take the job of private nurse to wealthy Nicholas Wakeford on his secluded island in the Gulf of Mexico. Not only will she have to cope with a difficult patient, she will have to deal with his unfriendly housekeeper, Eileen Powers, and her boorish son.

Yet old Nicholas Wakeford needs nursing care, so Dee accepts the job. She is soon surprised to hear Nicholas accuse her of trying to smother him. She is even more surprised by the strange, sinister incidents that follow. Eventually, it becomes clear there is a would-be killer on the island. And Dee fervently hopes that he'll be caught before he does any real damage -- and that is won't turn out to be handsome, fascinating Jason Wakeford, the old man's unpredictable grandson.
