When he takes a liking to Marty Adair, a chorus girl recently cast in her first big part, he tells her that her job is on the line if she doesn t sleep with him. Where some women might crumple, Marty turns to her boyfriend, one-armed PI Dan Fortune.

At Vega s office, the producer s goons reward Fortune s chivalry with a bum s rush and a light beating.
