A lovely young Beverly Stuart drove down the oak-lined road leading to Locksley Hall, she wondered why her older cousin, Fern Lawton, had so urgently requested her company. Probably another hare-brained scheme, Bev thought sadly. Ever since Fern's fiancé had run off with another woman years ago, Fern had wallowed in a pit of despair and self-pity, refusing even to leave her home.
Bev too was unhappy in love, although she kept it hidden better. She had been ten when she had first met handsome Swedish Kurt Suneson, and he had unknowingly stolen her heart. But it had been Fern who he had loved, and after she spurned him, he left, never to return.
And so Bev listened to Fern's newest plot, town between shock and exhilaration.
Fern's plan led the girls on a whirlwind tour of the Orient and to adventure and romance.
