Shy Ginny Belasca has always preferred being in the shadow of her best friend Denise Hadley, a beautiful and popular junior at Sweet Valley High. After being coaxed into working as a teen counselor on a local youth hotline, she strikes up a friendship with a troubled guy called Mike.
