Murder On A Seagoing Tug — G. Sam Carr

When the body of a murdered sailor is found floating in New York Harbor, CPO Jack McCain, a criminal investigator, is ordered aboard the USS Lakota to gather evidence on why and who would have wanted the sailor dead. Instead of a routine assignment, McCain finds himself in a Navy he never dreamed possible. He is appalled at the unkempt appearance of the ship, the unmilitary bearing of most of the crew, and most of all, the CO: Ross Adams. On the other hand, in spite of a failed mutiny attempt, he believes the XO, Daniel Posey, has the makings of an outstanding young naval officer. McCain's contempt heightens when he learns that Adams's wife in Norfolk and girlfriend in Bayonne are both pregnant. And to top it off, he discovers that several crew members have taken out now-delinquent personal loans for Adams.
