Dr. Helen Renshaw flew out to Calcutta expecting to be welcomed by Dr. John Parry, whose visiting lectures back in England had so inspired her. Instead she was confronted by his rather grim-faced colleague Dr. Matthew Chainey, who thought she'd come out on a man hunt â€" and, in any case, a remote Indian backwater wasn't the right place for a nice girl like her!
