While working and mothering her newborns, Margaret creates a support group for equally stressed women. Nonetheless, not all of their anxieties are shared: Samantha fears that her roommate is a terrorist; Enid's crime-business partner had recently been killed; and Krystal hides from her murderous husband.
Meanwhile, a mysterious death inside Berlin's Russian Consulate threatens world peace and, during the ensuing investigation, Margaret is counseled: "Each person has their own Great War and this may be your's."
But Margaret has allies too: Vladimir, a former general of Russia's Presidential Security Service, who considers her a daughter; Borya, a powerful intelligence officer nicknamed Lucifer (The Devil), her cherished uncle; a lawyer, Margaret's father, whose actions exemplify courage; and her boyfriend, Randy, who is the love of her life.
