Sam didn't mean to be brainwashed.

True, he was raised by the aliens that control Earth, but they didn't beat him or experiment on him or warp his brain with alien goo. No species as reasonable as the Spo needed to brainwash anyone.

They warned him going back to Earth as an alien protégé would require humility and readjustment... but he didn't expect to be universally pitied and despised. Bridge-building is clearly not his forte. Even his long-lost sister rejects his message.

After a hate-crime, a fire, and a riot, Sam's confidence is in rags.

His alien mentor is like a father to him. The other cadets are closer than siblings. Can he stand the cost of losing another family?

Particularly when no one wants him. Except perhaps dead.

From the streets of Los Angeles to the orbiting station, Sam must find a way to save both families - and maybe the Earth while he's at it.
