Manhattan North — Martha Albrand

"Manhattan North" is the police district that includes the fashionable section of upper Fifth Avenue. It is here, near a deserted entrance to Central Park one still and snowy night that Clark Butworth, a distinguished and controversial Justice of the Supreme Court, is brutally stabbed to death.

Because the murder is thought to have political overtones, a Presidential commission is promptly formed. One of its members is Tad Wood, an enterprising young lawyer whose life becomes inextricably entangled with that of the murdered man's beautiful daughter, Caroline, when he takes it upon himself to track down the killer. As the details surrounding the murder gradually come to light, Tad finds himself moving closer to the truth--not only to identifying the killer and learning his motive, but to understanding the strange ambivalence of Caroline, who both fears and desires him.
