Janice and I didn't really adopt Rogo; he adopted us. Everyone loved the B-mots, brought to Earth by visitors from Betelgeuse. It was better than owning a dog. Life felt a little sweeter with a B-mot. We had more zest. We'd never felt more in love with each other. And for sure, we loved our little Rogo. Maybe too much.
A short story from the author of Eternity's End and The Chaos Chronicles. Originally appeared in the anthology Futurelove: a Science Fiction Triad (Bobbs-Merrill). Also appears in the ebook collection Going Alien. 6600 words.
