Through no fault of his own, Charles, Lord Deverham, has deeply offended his grandfather's moral principles.
To make amends, Charles agrees to visit Bath. There resides beautiful young Florence Winterbourne whom his grandfather believes make a suitable wife for Charles.
It's only after he has committed himself to Florence that Charles realises it is the girl's Aunt Patience, a small brown wren of a woman, who provides the warmth and wit to their outings and a gentleman does not jilt his bethrothed!
