Life for Angelique Boudreau has always been lovely and simple. She is content to live in her Nova Scotian fishing community; she is glad that she will soon have a new baby brother or sister; and most of all she is happy that she will soon be the wife of Joseph Landry, the man she loves more than all of the world.
But on a gray afternoon in October, Angelique's happiness is stolen when Redcoats deport the Frenchmen including her father and Joseph from the community. She and her mother are left to fend for themselves, facing dangers and uncertainty.
As tragedy after tragedy pile up in her life, Angelique feels as though her heart will break. How can she keep hatred from ruling her heart when she may never see her beloved Joseph again?
