A first collection of stories by an Australian poet and author of "Hotel Bellevue" (Chatto, 1986), set in and about the fictional Australian town of Limestone and conveying the surface claustrophobia of small-town living and the Machiavellian politics played out beneath the surface. The author was an accountant before becoming a full-time writer and director of the literature board of the Australia Council. He has published several collections of poetry which have won awards, including the Canada/Australia Prize. He is the author of four novels: "The Birthday Gift", "The White Stag of Exile", "Holiday of the Ikon" and "Hotel Bellevue ".
