Sayne and Ilvien are getting along in life, and are much older than they used to be. It's been more than forty years since Sayne Arebyth was an active serial killer, and he and his wife are faced with a choice. Do they want to stay in the FNA, or go back to Europe? This, coupled with the fact that they've chosen to adopt another child, leads them to remain in limbo; that is, of course, until they meet Saycre.
