Lady Tilly Markham has no interest in marriage but her family is in dire straits and she is suddenly faced with her duty: marry well and marry quickly. Stephen Hepden, Duke of Portbury would fit that role admirably but he has caused her heartbreak in the past and she can't let that happen again. She must find a solution. It's an audacious plan - well two plans, really - the first is to exact revenge on Stephen Hepden and the second, with the help of her brother, Freddie, is to win the Clifton Cup. Tilly's plans are in place but just when everything looks like she might succeed, Freddie disappears into thin air and her hopes of winning the Cup disappear with him. There is just one thing left for her to try. It's reckless and will put her in danger but it is her only hope if she is to avoid being forced to marry a man she both loves and loathes.
