Shortly after the Falklands conflict Gus Meredith is put out to graze by the RAF. Due to an injury sustained whilst flying Meredith's commanding officer considered it no longer appropriate for Meredith to be on active service and grounded him. Meredith missed the snugness of the Tornado cockpit, the sleek lines of a jet fighter wrapped around him, the noise of speed cutting through the wings. He missed the adrenaline of living on the edge, the buzz of flying in excess of a thousand miles per hour, the split second decision making that made the difference between life and death. Deprived of testing his reactions to the limit he seeks a replacement. This need for a challenge sees him embroiled with a drug syndicate when engaged to fly a consignment of heroin across the Channel into the UK. Through no fault of Meredith's the trip goes awry and in order to escape capture he is forced to improvise. Not one for resting on his laurels he perceives there might be a way he can turn the debacle to his financial advantage and chooses to tread a very dangerous path. A path that should the syndicate become aware of his duplicity, will open a Pandora's box of evil and vengeance.
