Jamie McAlister was born Chaim Metzger. He survived Buchenwald as a four-year-old; now it's 1953 and he's been adopted by an American family in which he's the only Jew. At his bar mitzvah, he realizes he needs to come to terms with his identity and with the demons of his past.
