As the daughter of a Catholic mother and a Jewish father, thirty-seven-year-old Cecilia grows up obsessed with the Church's rituals and her own overwhelming sense of guilt. She pursues her own bizarre form of penance by rubbing herself with poison ivy and throwing herself in front of speeding cars.
