Lady Deena Heyford's sister, Lizzy, left the family home in England years ago to marry an American, and it could be said that Deena was happy to see her go. The sisters were as different as summer and winter.
After the death of her father, Deena is left in the guardianship of her estranged brother-in-law, Kyle Stern, Lizzy's widowed husband. Deena is treated like little more that a governess to her neice as Kyle struggles with the trust his dead wife destroyed. His New Hampshire estate is heavy with the memory of Lizzy's devious nature.
