Charles returns to San Francisco for the Grand Opening of the new hotel. It turns out to be an eventful grand opening with the town's mayor and Governor of the state showing up. Charles and the family return to Denver when Charles receives devastating news that he lost his beloved horse, Wind Fire. Charles returns to Philadelphia with the family and is pleased with the progress on the food store and the beer brewery. Now, it's just a matter of obtaining the ingredients, and he will begin making beer. Charles would like to start Ghost out with a beautiful herd of Thoroughbreds, so he travels to Lexington to visit Henry Plummer and ask him about selling his entire herd. While in Louisville, Charles creates a mortal enemy that comes to Philadelphia to settle the score.
