Fourteen-year-old Sarah "Scoop" Coop knows horses better than she knows herself -- especially Orphan, a mixed-breed mare from her grandfather's stable.

Scoop is kind of an orphan herself. She never knew her birth parents. She was raised by adoptive parents who died in a tragic accident. Now she and her brother, B.C., live with Aunt Dotty. Grandfather Coop lives nearby and runs a horse stable, but Aunt Dotty is the one who helps Scoop understand life and learn about God.
