When a 200-year-old skeleton is discovered in the ruins of an old church steeple in Newburyport, Massachusetts, newcomer Andy Gammon finds something else: a rare silver tankard missing since the Great Fire in 1811...and a mystery.
Andy, an enthusiastic "outsider" who's determined to be accepted in her husband's small seaport community, is intrigued but oddly discouraged from trying to identify the body. Then a decidedly fresher corpse appears...a local ladies' man who'd been restoring the steeple. Coincidentally--or not--Andy's home is engulfed in flames. What possible connection could there be between murder and arson, past and present? Clearly, someone feels the town's secrets are better left buried. But Andy soon realizes that history has a way of repeating itself, especially when it comes to murder.
