Not until the twentieth century, when aerial photographs of the Arizona desert are delivered into the hands of one man, is there the first awareness that meteorites may have left more than craters to mark their impact with the planet. As one girl and four men investigate a new phenomenon and learn of a crater concealed deep in the forests of central Canada, they become part of a nightmare having implications of staggering importance to the whole world.
