Hekka Pekka — Mary Clanahan

Hekka Pekka is the youngest son of Cherl, a Seer of note. He has a quick mind and with his brother Munjee learnt his numbers with the local Factor. However, once his period of learning was over his father has refused to apprentice him to Factor Makdee. Although Hekka Pekka does not want to become a factor he doesn't see any likelihood of ever becoming what he really wants to be. All his life he's wanted to become a weather wizard. Hekka Pekka doesn't know that his father, Cherl, has actually foreseen him going to the college and becoming a wizard of note. All he knows is that herding sheep day after day is extremely boring, and then one fine morning he's visited by a small puffy white cloud that took up a position above his head and stays there unless Hekka Pekka instructs it to move elsewhere. It wasn't long before a very grand individual descended on his father and demanded to know who was stealing his cloud? Hekka Pekka discovers this illustrious person is none other than Maister Crankor the "wizard seeker" and to his great surprise and delight Hekka Pekka finds himself on the road to the Wizard's college to fulfill his greatest wish. He has many small adventures along the way, meets people of note, learns much about his father and eventually arrives at the college, where he spends some fruitful years; makes some long lasting friendships and eventually fulfills his father's foresight by becoming a weather wizard of great note.
