After Joel Morrison lost his children in the 1952 Kern County earthquake, God blessed him with a successful business and five more children. Now those children are grown and on their own; however, Joel worries that the devourer has once again set his sights on them. For the most part, Joel's children are successful and prosperous, yet they remain unhappy. So, in an attempt to teach them a lesson in giving, Joel decides to radically alter his will. The decision is not met with widespread acceptance, but an unforeseen announcement from one of his daughters soon awakens the others to a new perspective.
