Heart on Ice — Claire Blackburn

Dark haired Molly Saunders returns to skating after nearly five years, but at twenty-one she is almost too old to compete -- this is her last chance. She comes to Boone, Colorado on scholarship to resume training and is soon caught up in the strict regime of practice sessions.

She is befriended by the slim blond Jack Mallen, who is competing only because his great-uncle Cyrus Boone wishes to have a champion. Jack has no real interest in skating, and his bitterness and cynicism affect everything he does. Molly is totally unprepared for her coach, the dark-haired Niella Cain, a former ice star, whose doll-like blonde prettiness is a constant reminder is Molly that, with her own slightly exotic looks, she could never become such a star.

As Molly is struggling to cope with this new life, her older brother arrives. Kelly Saunders his long been the irresponsible artist, but now he suddenly decides to settle down in Boone. Molly's life is further complicated when Jack falls in love with her. She is not sure that she loves him.

A seemingly harmless promise that Milly makes to Cyrus Boone has far-reaching consequences and Molly has a number of surprises before the year is over. Her anxieties about skating and her uncertainties about Jack are revealed at the time of the National Finals -- is ways she never imagined when she first came to Boone.
