Her parents had always hidden all the struggles and ugliness of the society in which they lived, so as not to bitter her young life. They hoped she could grow free of all the prejudices they had to endure in the past. However, to their good efforts, their daughter had noticed, and felt the difference of the races in our society. She had realized that her father was black, her mother white, and she? Neither one. She wondered more than once what was she? When she asked the question to her parents, the answer she was given was that the color of the skin does not determine the color of the soul. And they were always giving her good advice.
