Postwar Connecticut is busy rebuilding its homes, families -- dreams -- when Evelyn Barclay, a soldier's widow, arrives at Greystone Tavern. Grateful for the opportunity to stay at the fine old inn, she begins working on its restoration with Jonathan Palmer, last member of the family who originally owned it. However, her contentment with their progress, and Palmer's attentions, is quickly shattered…A family of arrogant Spanish aristocrats moves in, disrupting the peace with suspicious interest in a treasure rumored to be buried in the tavern.
