A harried investigator for the Paloma County, California D.A.'s office, Brian Kayne finds the time--somewhat reluctantly--to attend an art show with his mother and endure yet another matchmaking attempt. Surprisingly his "date," artist Joanna Starrett, is an intriguing woman. So are her paintings--one in particular. For Jo has unwittingly put to canvas the scene of an unsolved murder inspired by a poem from her collaborator.
