The civil war battles continue. Charles is disturbed when he hears of the number of men killed and missing. His only solace during this time is his family. He spends much time at home with the children and prays daily for his son's safe return. A few new construction jobs are offered, and Charles leaves the decision up to Darren to make. He can't get his mind into the business. All he can think of is Ghost. Ghost's company returns to Harrisburg and is disbanded. Not willing to leave the army, he reenlists with another regiment, the 16th Cavalry Regiment, headed by Colonel John Irvin Greg. Colonel Gregg has reservations about accepting Ghost's enlistment until he reads the previous officer's report. The battles become brutal, and Ghost finds himself in emanate danger when their lines are overrun with Confederates near a place known as Gettysburg.
