Darlene Althorp idolizes Jake Edgewood, an air force lieutenant and "older" man, but he treats her like a child. She loves the attention Rick showers upon her at college, but he can't compare to Jake's maturity. She is looking for independence...and love, but she has forgotten to look to the One who can supply all her needs.

Jake adores the sweet, ornery schoolgirl who is part of his adopted family, but he is waiting patiently for Darlene to mature. Time is running out, though, for soon he will be transferred to another base and Darlene will be back at college. If he waits any longer he might lose her altogether.
