Kemp blamed himself; he should have kept in closer touch with his sister. Now it appeared Lorna had gone to Colombia with a man named Roberto Vargas. Apparently there had been a party at the house of a certain Barton Sanger but when Kemp went there to make enquiries, Sanger was unwilling to give him information. Then there was an attempt on his life which, but for the timely appearance of a character named Mekkle, might have proved successful. Mekkle was very keen indeed to catch up with Vargas. He had only one purpose in mind: to kill the Fat Man from Colombia.
