At age seventeen in April 1893, Henrietta Place is tremendously excited that she has been accepted by the Board of Admissions of Barnard College in New York City, where she will study to become a school teacher. But then her Aunt Hildegarde informs her that her dream must end, for her domineering father, Major Marcus Belmont, is demanding that she and her aunt and sister join him out West. Henrietta tries to rebel, but it's no use, and the major gets his way. Full of resentment, young Etta Place unwittingly heads into a series of mishaps that culminates with her being captured by the notorious Apache Kid, and then being rescued by Harry Alonzo, the alias of a handsome outlaw notoriously known as The Sundance Kid.
