"You should be wearing emeralds--green, mysterious, exotic..." When she heard those words, the mahogany-haired Vicky Sinclair had already given her heart to the charismatic, darkly handsome Phil Mart. But their searing love is sorely tested in Emeralds and Jades, a lush, sweeping story of romantic suspense set in Guatemala, exotic land of the ancient Mayans and the bustling new...

The tale begins in New York City, where Vicky, a student of pre-Columbian art, has recently received several disturbing postcards from her step-brother Chuck in Guatemala, imploring her to come. Vicky decides to make the trip, but on the eve of her departure, her neighbor takes her to a party. There she meets the mysterious Phil--and is immediately attracted to his cool, strong looks. They leave the party together--and Phil asks her to stay with him in New York. Though everything in her says yes, Vicky knows she must go to help her brother...

But when Vicky lands in Guatemala, she discovers that she is being followed--and that her brother is missing. Soon she is plunged into a terrifying mystery, involving a ruthless smuggling ring, a priceless jade sculpture, and a foreign world where no one can be trusted--not her brother, not Phil, and least of all herself...

She was about to surrender and he knew it.

"You must stay here, Vicky. I can't let you go away for months, not now, when you're about to surrender," he teased.

She almost said she'd cancel all her plans. But something held her back. She had a feeling that she was being rushed to the precipice. Never before had she been so torn. Her life had been moving in the direction she'd wanted--and now Phil came into it, a disrupting force.

"I'm sorry, Phil," she said, moving away from him, trying to put some distance between them, because when her flesh was in intimate contact with his, she couldn't think--she could only feel. "I can't cancel my plans at this late date. Surely you understand."

"No, I don't understand." His voice was hard, cold, cutting...
