What begins as a simple mission to recover lost comrades in the Martian desert quickly turns deadly when Tyke and the others find themselves stranded on the Red Planet, with only the slimmest of chances to make it home again. Indeed, after several members of the group are badly injured by attacks from soldiers under the command of Colonel Burns, the murderous dictator of the Martian colony, it begins to seem that all hope is lost. But as usual, things are not quite what they seem, and sometimes hope comes from the most unlikely of places.
