Charlotte (Charlie) Creed had anything but a normal childhood, and in her adult life as a handywoman, she avoids anything that smacks of commitment. When a series of suspicious “accidents” nearly kill her, she is all for packing up and getting out of Chicago. Having recently come into possession of a mysterious ring left to her by a father she never knew, Charlie begins to wonder about the misfortune she has encountered since acquiring the ring.
One day while cleaning the ring, she notices an inscription and writes the strange words on a tissue box -- and immediately passes out. Unbeknownst to her, with her writing she had performed an invocation that would alter her world, and possibly save her life.
Ravin Vendrakon, Lord of the Dragons, was about to lose patience with Charlie Creed, wondering if she would be killed before she invoked the protection of the Dragons. He picks Charlie up from the bathroom floor and waits for her to awaken.
Charlie does, only to discover her reality is much worse than she assumed. Once she gets over the skepticism and shock of meeting her darkly handsome “Guardian,” she has to not only solve the mystery of whom her father was and connect the ring to the treasures the Dragon's once forged and now guard, she has to stay alive -- and keep those who care for her alive as well. Charlie is relentlessly pursued by the Vahagon (Dragon Chokers), who have been battling the Dragons for centuries. Drawn to her enigmatic Dragon, Charlie discovers that her whole life is some sort of puzzle, a thread that weaves into the ancient past, and like it or not, she is going to learn that loyalty and commitment are as breathing to those who share that bond to her.
