Cary had been given a difficult task -- to bring life and happiness to a house that for years had been darkened by bitterness and frustration.
She planned to do it by establishing a home for crippled children. But she could only do this with the help of a certain doctor and he appeared to have taken a violent dislike to her, which she as violently returned.
The scene is set first in the Swiss Alps, then in Joyce Dingwell's own country, Australia.
