Dr. Rebecca Madison's general practice in the Cotswolds was too large for one person to handle since her father's death, and she was anxious to take on a partner.

Gr. Grant Travers seemed the best, qualified, but Rebecca had reservations, he seemed too forceful a character to be involved with personally. Happily engaged to Roy Gresham, Rebecca realized this shouldn't be an issue, and Grant was willing, for his own reasons, to accept the partnership offer.

But Rebecca's misgivings turned out to be well founded, and she couldn't see how to untangle all the difficulties.
