Isabelle Hugon has been dealing with the consequences of her father's bad habits ever since she was a child. His love of liquor and gambling has kept the family on the brink of poverty for years. Isabelle has accompanied her father to the weekly card games hosted by influential men in the parish ever since her mother died in an effort to try to keep him from gambling away all his money. However her father has managed to rack up a debt that the notorious Charles Kincaid aims to collect in an interesting way. Charles will forgive her father's debt in exchange for Isabelle's hand in marriage. All of this culminates to bring you an unconventional love story set in the heart of 1920s Louisiana.
