THE SISTER OF MERCY AND THE ANGEL OF DEATH
When Father Koesler fills in as chaplain, he discovers that, indeed, all is not well at Detroit's St. Vincent's Hospital. The beds are used for more than convalescence. A nasty case of malpractice surfaces and can't be covered up. An operating room is deliberately and spectacularly blown up.
Worst of all, Sister Eileen, the iron-willed nun who almost single-handedly keeps the inner-city hospital open, becomes the object of some violently unhealthy attention. The several suspects range from the hopelessly clumsy to the ruthlessly calculating. Father Koesler's powers of divination should prove bitter medicine to the would-be killer, if only the lifesaving diagnosis can be reached on time.
