What if the haunted house were not in some ancient neighborhood, or at the end of a dark road, or on top of a windswept hill? What if it were in a well-to-do suburban neighborhood? What if whatever was haunting the house did not confine itself to the house, but leaked out into the neighborhood, every day expanding its malign influence? What would the neighbors think? How might they be affected, if they believed in ghosts, or didn't believe? And what is anybody going to do about it?
