The earth is in shambles. Humans have caused the destruction of natural resources, unleashed nuclear devastation, and decimated their own populations. A new race of people, the Canidae, dominates the remaining humans, as well as the sea-dwelling Serhombians and the Gapylloi. Ginger Jackson, a fourteen-year-old part-Serhombian girl, is abducted by Keegan Rawalf, who is part Canidae. He rapes her, impregnates her, and marries her.
Years later, Ginger is a mother of three, still living under Keegan's iron fist in the hills of what was once Great Britain. Rumors abound of a mystical diamond that must be thrust into a great chasm, far across the sea in the lost land of America. If the diamond is not returned, it is said, life on Earth will finally come to a bitter end.
Keegan is opposed to any of his family members taking on the great task, but Ginger senses they have a part to play in the mission. Against a backdrop of brutality and anarchy that is the dystopian era known as De Novo, the races of people have a last chance to redeem the world they have destroyed.
