Vivacious Cousin Melissa is the only person who seems glad to see Justine Collins when she returns to her gloomy family home after a long absence. Justine's Aunt Amelia resents her, Freda, an old servant, mumbles strange, threatening messages to her. Reed, Cousin Melissa's husband, is sullen, while his handsome half brother, Theodore, frightens Justine with the evil-looking falcons he has trained.

Her feelings of discomfort turn to fear when she senses the strange hysteria beneath Melissa's liveliness. Then Justine's fear turns to terror when she is deliberately locked in a vault at the family cemetery, and when she learns of the old sins and secrets--including a mysterious death--that still haunt the sinister house.

Horror is due to break out again. Will Justine be its next victim?
