I'll never forget the first time someone called me 'trash.'
I was 13, and it was my own father. I guess I should've expected it, since Mom said I was a mistake for as long as I remember. I've been underestimated by everyone, from my ex-husband to my college instructor, who never thought I'd pass his EMT courses. When I first applied for the Fire Academy, I was laughed out the door, probably because my resume listed my employer as "Cherry Girls Gentlemen's Club."
I figure, people will doubt you. Let them. Just don't doubt yourself.
I got into the academy and passed with flying colors, and I just got my uniform as one of Boston's finest. I'm only a provisional firefighter, but when I make it through the trial period, I'll have my dream. The only thing standing in my way is the scorching attraction I feel towards my lieutenant -- who is hands off because of the job.
Life isn't fair. Will the first good relationship I've ever experienced mean the end to my dream?
