Good sister, bad sister. One dies. One lives in her place. Her stepsister Gloria was born bad, and Holly had come to the end of her rope.
This time, Holly Morgan's, stepsister had gone too far. Gloria had used Holly's name in a "scape" before, but now Gloria was implicated in murder--and the police had come for Holly in the middle of her engagement party. The result was a shambles of the party and of the romance, news photos of Holly taken by the brash young reporter who had invaded the Morgan house, and Holly's resolve to do something about Gloria once and for all.
Gloria would be hard to find. From a brief note, asking for money, it was apparent that she was using and alias, Violet Stearns, with her only address General Delivery, Hollywood. There was nothing for Holly to do but go to the post office there and wait for Glo--and for the showdown that had been threatening for years.
But when the meeting finally did come about, Holly was not the only one waiting for Gloria. Secreted behind a newspaper stood Denny Kirkwood, the reporter-photographer who had taken Holly's picture at the interrupted engagement party and whom Holly had not been able to shake on her trip here. When Gloria spotted Denny, the obvious newsman, she fled.
And the next time Holly saw Gloria she was to find her murdered in the little apartment Holly had rented for herself. Horrified and in a panic, Holly picked up Gloria's purse and-only to find that now it was she who had assumed the alias of Violet Stearns--that this time it is she who was caught in a "scrape" that could lead only to further violence
