When orphaned Caroline Truro was offered a teaching job at a Massachuetts high school, she accepted happily. Not only would her career be advanced, but distant relatives had welcomed her into their home at nearby Brookdale Manor. She would have a family now, a warm new life, and, if she were willing, the prospect of a fresh romance.
But Brookdale Manor was not the haven Caroline had envisioned. For reasons she could not fathom, the relatives from whom she had hoped for love and comfort were jealous and suspicious - of each other and of her - as if she were intruding on some dread secret shrouded in their past. Then their smoldering resentments erupted into violence. One of her kin lay dead - and the ghost of the Truro past rose to drive Caroline ever closer to the edge of terror!
