In this fairy tale collection, Szekeres has retold and illustrated six well-known classics The Bremen Town Musicians , The Elves and the Shoemaker , The Emperor's New Clothes , Stone Soup , The Sleeping Beauty and The Princess and the Pea. Szekeres' retellings are pleasant and her illustrations quite pretty, with a good use of color; her use of animals as characters adds joviality to the book. However, by modernizing their language, the fairy tales have lost some of their timelessness in the retelling. Ages 2-5. (July)
