Darrel Winston is led by a spirit guide. Unknown to Darrel, he often finds himself in the middle of a crime that is being committed and he is forced to change the outcome. The spirit guide foresees the crime and attempts to change the paths of the suspect and the victim so they never meet and the crime cannot occur but is sometimes unable to act without human assistance. Darrel, unwittingly, becomes the agent that can make the change on the physical plane and he never knows when he's walking into a scenario on which he may have to act. He is helped in a couple of cases by Harry Nelson who is given dreams by his spirit guide and pointed at crimes under the same circumstances. Harry advises Darrel of something he has had a dream about and finds out that Darrel is already in the right place to intercede on the guide's behalf. It remains impersonal through a manhunt for a serial rapist, but in the middle of the hunt Darrel finds out that his son has been abducted and he and Harry join forces to locate and physically save his son.
