Burham Falls was a small, quiet town near the Hudson, like so many other towns that lie just to the north of New York City. But Burnham Falls was changing. But although the corporation meant a new and more prosperous way of life for the townspeople, it was also to bring many unforeseen, often tragic changes in the village--and in the lives of four women: Laura, the beatifully chic but untalented actress who found little solace as the wife of Amtec's president; Jeannie, the too-attractive daughter of the town's handyman; Harriet, the well-bred daughter of Joe Carpenter; and Sally, the young wife of a junior executive at Amtec.
