The Deputies series chronicles the trails, trials and tribulations of a group of special deputies responsible to Judge Randolph Martin of the Wyoming Territorial Court of the late 1800's. Deputy Jesse Thompson is on the trail of deranged outlaw Howdy Baxter, whose list of crimes would fill volumes. In turn, Baxter is hunting Harvey Palmer, who killed Baxter's brother during a stagecoach robbery. Deputy Thompson partners with Palmer, a simple man whose life is becoming more complicated every day. Baxter kidnaps Lila Foster, the love of Harvey Palmer's life, and Kitty Moynahan, a beautiful rancher's daughter who Jesse fell in love with at first sight. Together with a half-Irish, half-Apache and Chinese "ace-in-the-hole," the two men confront Baxter and his men in a ghost town finale that will keep the reader going until the final pages.
